Martin Feldstein Speaks

According to the NBER website:

Martin Feldstein is the George F. Baker Professor of Economics at Harvard University and President and CEO of the National Bureau of Economic Research.

From 1982 through 1984, Martin Feldstein was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and President Reagan’s chief economic adviser. He served as President of the American Economic Association in 2004. In 2006, President Bush appointed him to be a member of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.

I believe that his economic opinions shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Charlie Rose recently had a conversation with Mr. Feldstein concerning the economy and I thought his observations were very enlightening. Right off the bat, he stated that the economy was worsening, and went on to say that we have better than a 50/50 chance for a recession.

Hmm.. maybe he had lunch with Alan Greenspan before the show? :-)

It seems to me that the floodgates have been opened since the Fed Chief spoke about a worsening economy. Maybe many of these well-respected and influential economists have been waiting for Ben Bernanke to publicly state that the economy was in trouble before speaking their own minds.

Who knows? Regardless, it’s a show worth watching.
